Description: Fine-grained, almost free-flowing powder ranging from yellow to orange-yellow with a faint odor and persistent bitter taste. Melts with decomposition at ~280oC. Produced by a natural fermentation process using Ashbya gossypii microorganism. This single production process guarantees a product of the highest quality and purity.

Solubility: Slightly soluble in water (70-80 mg/l at 25oC). Practically insoluble in ethanol, acetone, chloroform, and ether, rapidly soluble in alkaline solutions. Its solubility in water can be improved by adding boric acid, urea, nicotinamide, and xanthine compounds. Aqueous neutral solutions of riboflavin have an intense yellow color and green fluorescence.

Stabilization, Stability: Stable for at least 36 months when stored in closed original packaging at room temperature max. 25oC. Resistant to heat in dark places and acidic solutions. Riboflavin is sensitive to alkaline substances, heavy metal salts, and light. Reducing agents convert Riboflavin into colorless-white compounds.

Applications: In pharmaceutical preparations: Due to its good flow properties, low static loading, low dust formation, and direct compressibility properties, Riboflavin is particularly suitable for making high-dose Vit B2, making B-complex multivitamin and multivitamin/mineral tablets by direct compression, and also for making powder mixtures, granules, and hard gelatin capsules. Riboflavin 100 can be used equally well in low concentrate solutions like the standard Riboflavin USP product. It can also be used as a colorant in liquid dosage forms and powder preparations that must be dissolved in water before use.

In Food Products: Can be used to fortify powder products such as vitamin supplement tablets, infant formula, detergent powders, soup powders, ready drink powders, and granules. Riboflavin 100 has been specially developed for fortified food products. Suitable for use in flour due to fine particle size. Flour mills can significantly reduce Vit B2 losses by using a standard Riboflavin 100. Riboflavin 100 is also used as a colorant in powder food products and liquids such as ready drink powders and sauce powders that must be dissolved in water or milk before use. Its advantage over the standard Riboflavin USP product is that Riboflavin 100 shows much more ease in processing with lower dust, lower static loading, better flow, and screening properties.
