Properties: Soluble in water at 1/1 ratio, insoluble in alcohol. Dissolves more easily than sodium carbonate. Obtained by passing carbon dioxide through potassium hydroxide.

Applications: Potassium carbonate is used in industrial products, glasses, ceramics, explosives, fertilizers and glazing industry, personal care products, production of soft soaps, food industry, production of inorganic salts, paints, and wool finishing processes. Potassium carbonate used in cocoa powder alkalization and as a leavening agent together with sodium aluminum phosphate causes soapy taste formation when used excessively. Adding potassium carbonate to liquid soap prevents hydrolysis and helps increase washing effect. Potassium carbonate is also used to keep liquid soap in liquid state and prevent gelling.
