Applications: Used in textile sector for bleaching fabric and raw canvas; in paper and pulp sector for whitening pulp and waste paper; in chemical sector for oxidation and hydroxylation reactions, production of inorganic peroxides such as peracetic acid, sodium perborate, calcium peroxide; in environmental chemicals sector for wastewater treatment, supplying dissolved oxygen in water and detoxification of water; in food sector for sterilization of beverage containers such as milk and fruit juice and as a preservative in milk; in pharmaceutical sector as a local germicide (antiseptic) and in contact lens cleaner; in cosmetic sector for hair lightening and hair dye; in mining sector for detoxification of various minerals; in metallurgy sector for metallic surface formation; in pool chemicals sector for disinfection of pool water.
Packaging materials disinfected with hydrogen peroxide must be subjected to high heat to prevent contact with food.
Storage and Usage:
Hydrogen peroxide should be stored in a cool area away from direct sunlight, heat, and flammable materials. The packaging should always be kept closed to prevent catalytic contamination that would lead to decomposition. Although the product is not fundamentally flammable, contact with combustible organic materials should be strictly avoided during use as the oxygen released as a result of decomposition will intensify combustion. Sufficient water should be kept in the area where the product is distributed to wash with water against spills and splashes. The environment should be ventilated to reduce the spread of H2O2 vapors. Protective clothing should be worn as the product is irritating to skin, nose, throat, and lungs. Pure aluminum (min. 99.5%), stainless steel (304/316 L), tantalum, zirconium, and glass are suitable materials for storing hydrogen peroxide. The use of polyethylene and PVC materials in storage is only valid for max. 60% (by weight) solutions.
