Acceptable Daily Intake:
4 mg/kg body weight.

Side Effects:
Since it is an azo dye, it causes salicylate intolerance in humans. Additionally, it releases histamine and intensifies asthma symptoms. In combination with benzoates, it can even lead to hyperactivity in children.

Usage Restrictions:
None; E122 can be consumed by all religious groups, vegetarians who do not eat meat only, and vegetarians who do not eat meat as well as dairy and dairy products.
